Gopher Resource Shares Positive Impact of Environmental, Health and Safety Investments

As part of OSHA’s annual Safe + Sound Week, August 7-13, Gopher Resource is pleased to report year-over-year continuous improvement of the company’s safety record.

The company prides itself on the core value of “Protecting People and Communities,” which is why they continue to invest significant time and capital to ensure it is a safe, healthy place to work.

Year-to-date, Gopher Resource’s total recordable incident rate is approximately 1.50. Not only is this a marked decrease from previous years and the company’s lowest on record, but it is also significantly lower than the 4.9 incident rate reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (2022 report) for the metal recycling industry.

The company attributes this improvement to the commitment of its workforce to ensure their own safety as well as the safety of others, combined with ongoing investments in training, equipment and procedures.

In 2022, Gopher Resource employees participated in over 14,000 hours of environment, health, safety, security and quality (EHSSQ) training and over 7,000 hours of operations training.

Over the last couple of years, the company also invested more than $10 million in industrial safety programs, risk reduction measures, and occupational health programs to keep employees safe on the job, including $2.5 million in personal protective equipment (PPE).

The company is incredibly proud of its workforce and the progress they have made toward the goal of zero safety incidents.
