Gopher Resource Corporation
The company operates 365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, and has been in business since 1946. Gopher Resource Corporation recycles batteries (car batteries and industrial batteries) processing approximately one million pounds of batteries every day. The recycling process includes the destruction of the battery by hammermill, melting the lead material, and then refining the lead into 70-pound bricks and 1-ton blocks. The majority of the recycled lead product is then sold to battery manufacturers for the production of new/recycled car batteries.
Upon Employment
New employees spend the first three weeks on the day shift (7 a.m. to 3 p.m.) participating in new-hire orientation. New-hire orientation combines classroom training, property tours, and structured on-the-job training with experienced foundry employees. New hires in our general laborer position are assigned either to our furnace or to our refining departments.
Individuals working in the furnace area melt the lead from the batteries and pour it into molds. Responsibilities in this area include but are not limited to the operation of two furnaces and equipment such as forklifts and front-end loaders.
Individuals working in the refining area refine the lead that has been recycled in the furnace area to meet the specifications of our clients. Responsibilities include taking samples of the lead, running samples in the laboratory, and adding and/or taking elements from the lead as needed.
