New Study: 20% Reported Direct Job Growth for U.S. Lead Battery Industry

U.S. Lead Battery Manufacturers and Recyclers Make Significant Impact: 92,000 Jobs; $26 Billion Economic Contribution

A new economic impact study (EIS) requested by the U.S. lead battery manufacturing and recycling industries shows the continued – and impressive –economic benefits these industries, which include Gopher Resource, are making.

The study analyzed 2018 data reported by industry members, along with economic data models. The biggest change since the same data points were last collected in 2016 was a 20% increase in reported direct jobs. In all, the lead battery industry provided nearly 25,000 direct jobs across 38 states, enabled nearly 92,000 total jobs for American workers, and contributed more than $26.3 billion to U.S. economic output.

Additionally, the industry continues to create green jobs via the industry’s circular economy. Lead batteries also play a major role in supporting green applications, namely, clean mobility and clean energy.

The EIS study, titled Economic Contribution of the U.S. Lead Battery Industry, was released in September, 2019, by Battery Council International. Gopher Resource CEO Brian Leen said that the study highlights the important role that companies like Gopher Resource play in growing and powering the economy and supporting the unique model of sustainability that the lead battery industry represents.

Gopher Resource is proud of our over 600 employees who contribute to this economic impact and improve the communities where we live and work.
