The Recycling Zone Speeds Up Service

Updated drop-off process gives residents faster, easier way to recycle waste and contribute to reuse area – without leaving their vehicle.

You’ve heard of one-stop shopping. Now, there’s one-stop dropping – at The Recycling Zone in Dakota County. Operated by Gopher Resource, the community recycling center had made recent renovations that streamline recycling for its 70,000 annual visitors.

The biggest changes to the center include a new drop-off process that allows residents to stay in their vehicles. With a driver’s license or identification in hand, drivers first stop at an exterior kiosk to have their card scanned. From there, drivers are directed into a specific drop-off lane where staff unload vehicles. NOTE: Items must be in bags or containers residents are willing to leave behind.

For nearly three decades, Gopher Resource has partnered with Dakota County, headquarters of our Eagan facility. The Recycling Zone is located adjacent to our campus and provides safe, convenient recycling of select household waste, electronics and general recyclable items that would otherwise load up landfills.

“Our company’s mission is to deliver high-quality environmental solutions not only nationally, but also in our backyard, by operating The Recycling Zone. We’re doing everything possible to encourage residents and businesses to recycle,” said Brian Leen, president and CEO of Gopher Resource.

In 2018, The Recycling Zone managed about 3.6 million pounds of household hazardous waste and electronics. Most materials are accepted at no charge to county residents and businesses.
