Celebrating the People Behind 80 Years of Progress: Ray Krantz Featured by Battery Council International

As Gopher Resource celebrates 80 years of supplying critical minerals for American manufacturing, we’re proud to recognize the people whose expertise and dedication continue to strengthen the battery recycling industry.
Battery Council International (BCI) recently featured Ray Krantz, Director of Business Development, in its Powered by People series, which highlights the professionals whose work helps support the battery industry and the circular economy.
Ray’s feature highlights his role in building relationships across the battery recycling supply chain and helping ensure valuable materials recovered from used batteries continue their journey into new products.
Eight Decades of People, Progress, and Purpose
For 80 years, Gopher Resource employees have helped build a more resilient domestic supply chain by recovering and refining critical minerals from used lead batteries.
Every day, approximately 80 semi-trucks arrive at Gopher Resource facilities carrying spent lead batteries and the critical raw materials needed for new U.S. battery production. Through advanced recycling processes, Gopher Resource recovers valuable materials from each battery, helping keep these resources in circulation and supporting American manufacturing.
Keeping Critical Minerals in Motion
Gopher Resource recycles more than 24 million batteries each year, recovering lead, tin, antimony, plastic, and acid from every unit with virtually nothing going to waste.
These recovered materials are returned to manufacturers and used to produce new batteries and other products, reducing the need for newly mined resources while helping strengthen the domestic supply chain.
As demand for critical minerals continues to grow, the work of recyclers like Gopher Resource is increasingly important. The partnerships built throughout the recycling ecosystem help ensure critical materials remain available for the industries and infrastructure that power everyday life.
Recognizing the People Behind the Process
The BCI profile also highlights Ray’s career journey, his passion for the outdoors, and the perspective he brings to his work at Gopher Resource.
His story represents the many employees across Gopher Resource who bring expertise, commitment, and innovation to the recycling process every day. From operations teams to business development professionals, each person plays an important role in advancing a circular economy and supporting a stronger domestic supply chain.
As Gopher Resource celebrates its 80th anniversary, we’re proud to recognize employees like Ray who continue building on our legacy of innovation, partnership, and service.
